J Charles Shifferd - Director

Mr. Shifferd is a Director in the Operations Strategy Group at Barrier Advisors, Inc. Mr. Shifferd has 20 years of experience in operations management, private equity turnaround and investor assessment for consumer products, automotive manufacturing and aerospace companies.

Mr. Shifferd has served as Vice President of Operations and General Manager for multi-facility manufacturing operations and has successfully led numerous turnaround initiatives. Most recently he led the turnaround of an aerospace structures manufacturer with 5 locations in the U.S. and Mexico for a client private equity company. There he led the management team and generated a 30% reduction in working capital and an EBITDA improvement of over 12 percentage points, preventing a debt default and positioning the company as a market leader.

Prior to joining our firm Mr. Shifferd served as General Manager for Nautic Global Group, a portfolio company of Code Hennessey & Simmons LLC and manufacturer of recreational watercraft. He also served as Vice President of Operations for Zimmerman Sign Company, leading the turnaround of two manufacturing facilities as part of a private equity investment strategy for Bank of America Capital. Mr. Shifferd also has engineering and manufacturing leadership experience within the automotive industry and has held the position of Senior Operations Leader for a manufacturer of fitness equipment and bicycles.

Mr. Shifferd is certified as a Six Sigma Green Belt and has over 10 years of experience working in private equity portfolio companies implementing and teaching lean manufacturing and six sigma improvement methods. Mr. Shifferd holds an M.B.A. from the University of Notre Dame and received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point.
